Detailed Description

Tecna coilovers
90-05 Mazda MX5 Miata

The Tecna coilover was engineered from scratch to be the best riding coilover in this price range and still allow lowered ride heights. We think of these as daily driver shocks, not race shocks. If you are focused on the ultimate handling in a competition type environment, we recommend stepping up to Xidas with much higher spring rates. Tecna damping range is roughly equivalent to the softest 30% of Xida range. Perfect for a daily driver, canyons and some casual HPDE or auto-x.

Why Fixed length?
Tecna are fixed length, one piece body. Body and shaft lengths specifically engineered and manufactured for this application. This is quite different from most aftermarket 2 piece, length adjustable coilovers that use a generic cartridge plucked from a catalog with an adapter cup to so it will attach to a Miata. The upside of 2 piece colovers is that they are cheap to produce. The downside is that they don't perform as well as fixed length shocks. Anyone who tells you otherwise, is trying to sell you two piece shocks. So how did we get a custom fixed length monotube at this low price? We make our own shock bodies and shafts in very large quantities. The same production engineering strategy that allows us to offer $4000 worth of Xidas at $2200 allows us to offer $1800 worth of fixed length monotube in the Tecna for $1089 shipped.

Set up
Shock preload is pre-set to give about 5.25" pinch weld height on most cars. Start with that, do a short drive then start adjusting preload if you want to go higher or lower.
Typical available adjustment range are front pinch weld heights between 4.75" and 6" with driver. Adjust rear pinch weld height 1/8" higher than front height without driver for best handling balance.
We recommend 5.25" front pinch weld height for street driven cars. If the car bottoms too frequently, raise the ride height. Tecna will give the best combination and ride with either stock or small aftermarket front sway bar.
1" max front, OEM rear. More sway bar than that will only reduce ride quality without any increase in grip or handling. Start with shocks set at full soft then add damping in 5 click increments until it feels firm enough for your driving style.

Pinch weld ride height measurement assumes a 22.8~23.0" tall tires (185-60-14, 195/50/15, 205/50/15 225/45/15)

Front fender liners
The standard front setup provides enough bump travel for a 205/50/15 tire on a +36 offset 15x8 to just barely kiss the fender liner at full bump. Wider tires or lower offset wheels will require removal of plastic inner fender liners in front.

 * Min ride height will vary depending on weight. Heavier Miata builds will require slightly taller ride heights to avoid bottoming.
